Wanted:  People who:

bulletCare about dogs (German Shepherd Dogs in particular)
bulletGet upset when they see an abused German Shepherd Dog
bulletWant to get involved and DO GET INVOLVED
bulletHave the time, patience and resolve to help the German Shepherd Dog
bulletWill be proud to say "I'm a member of the German Shepherd Dog
Rescue of San Antonio"!

(Those who can not meet the above criteria, need not apply)

You only need to be the owner of one German Shepherd Dog to realize this is without a doubt one of God's smartest animals.  Intelligent, beautiful, loyal, resourceful, very alert, staunch defender, best friend and family member.  This dog will steal your heart...and then keep it forever.

If somebody is reading this and thinking to themselves "I had a German Shepherd Dog and had to get rid of him 'cause he was too big/noisy/hard to handle/got into trouble/ate all the trees in the yard/beat up on my little dog/jumped the fence/etc/etc/etc (pick one)."

Well...I got a theory about all the above.  Maybe YOU did something wrong...like YOU didn't train the German Shepherd Dog/YOU didn't have time for it/YOU chained it up to a tree in the back yard...and forgot about it/YOU abused the dog/YOU didn't think about having a BIG dog in a one bedroom apartment/etc/etc/etc (pick one)."

And...lastly...maybe YOU thought the easy way to solve your "problem" was to dump/take to the pound/kill/ etc/etc/etc (pick one) the German Shepherd Dog.

If any of this makes your heart crunch/head get sore/blood pressure rise/brings a tear to your eye/makes your teeth grind (pick one), then you are probably the person we are looking for as a member of our organization,
German Sheperd Dog Rescue of San Antonio.  We would love to have you on our team.

Basically, here's what we do:

bullet

Being available to pick up a German Shepherd Dog:  We have some pretty close ties with various animal control facilities all over the State of Texas.  Not everybody in animal control is the stereotypical "Dog Catcher."  There are a LOT of wonderful people at these facilities that really care about animals and the last thing they want to do is put them down.  If possible they will call a Rescue group to come and get a dog.

bullet

Transporting:  It's not unusual to get a call from some far away place (such as Dallas, Lubbock, etc) from a Rescue member who has a German Shepherd Dog destined for somebody in the San Antonio area, or who needs to find a foster home for the dog.  We have been known to coordinate a "relay" with members of other Rescue teams and successfully get the German Shepherd Dog from their foster home to their permanent home.  Transporting also includes that initial trip from the pound to the foster home and/or veterinarian.  A trip to the pound can be a real bummer!  But...it makes your heart smile when you leave there with your new friend on his way to his new home and love.

bullet

Fostering:  When you really love dogs, this is perhaps both the toughest and most rewarding experience you may ever have.  Enough can not be said for our "Foster Parents" and the efforts they put forth to give love, safety and a home to our dogs.  There have been far too many times when the German Shepherd Dog being fostered was very close to death...virtually on their last leg.  It takes pure determination and grit to pull a dog out of this and into being a healthy, happy German Shepherd Dog that God intended for him to be.  Fostering is the one area of Rescue that continuously needs volunteers.  As we do not have a kennel facility, foster homes are the back-bone of this organization.

bullet

We need all the help we can get.

Our primary mission is the Rescue of German Shepherd Dogs and getting them back onto their feet with good families who will care for and love them for the rest of their days.  We are a very close knit team that knows how to get the job done.  Being a self-starting, get involved type person is almost a must.  But...we have lots of room for those who can't donate a lot of their time...but some of their time.  There's always something going on in our organization such as coordinating transports, pickups, fund raisers, social events...such as picnics (at which we and our dogs have a GREAT time), and much more.

One more thing...don't be surprised if you are better known by your German Shepherd Dog's name than your own.  "Oh, you're Hercules' mom." or "Hi, you must be Gretel's parents." or "Thank you for rescuing Max.  I'm sorry...I didn't get your name."  You know you're in a good German Shepherd Dog Rescue organization when your dog's name is better remembered than your own!

So...fill out the volunteer application and let's get started.

Thank you!
